New York City’s annual climate summit comprised over 900 events and activities across the city this year, giving corporate decision makers, sustainability executives, government experts and climate advocates an opportunity to convene and discuss how to best tackle the climate crisis.
The theme for Climate Week NYC 2025 — which ran from Sept. 21-28 — was “Power On” and focused on scaling renewable energy, developing green infrastructure and integrating climate solutions across industries and sectors. The topic was at the heart of several events that took place and also resonated among many deals and ventures announced during the week. Major companies committed to large-scale carbon removals, supporting startups working on circularity and tackling the energy needs of artificial intelligence-powered data centers, among other sustainability initiatives.
While multiple speakers spoke of sustainability being a priority at the corporate level, several sustainability leaders also expressed concerns over the current ways the conversation on climate change is being politicized. Such a backdrop, experts argued, has caused companies to resort to “greenhushing” or deliberately downplaying or concealing their progress on climate goals to safeguard themselves from potential criticism or backlash.
